Tips for Applying

Applying for scholarships takes planning and persistence, but the payoff can be well worth the effort. Start by creating a master calendar or spreadsheet with all your scholarship deadlines, required materials, and submission methods so you never miss an opportunity. Read each scholarship’s eligibility requirements carefully and only apply to those you qualify for—this saves time and increases your chances of success.

When completing applications, be thorough and follow instructions exactly. Double-check for spelling, grammar, and formatting errors, and make sure every required document—like transcripts, letters of recommendation, or essays—is included. Keep your answers specific and personal by sharing experiences, goals, and achievements that set you apart from other applicants. Avoid generic statements and instead tell a story that makes you memorable to the reviewers.

Finally, save copies of all essays, short answers, and personal statements you write. Many scholarship prompts are similar, so you can adapt your work for other applications with only minor edits. Staying organized, starting early, and presenting your authentic self will help you submit strong, competitive applications.

Going to an out of state college? The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is a program through which students in participating states may enroll in designated two-year and four-year institutions and programs in other participating states at a special, reduced tuition level. Tuition for WUE students is the regular in-state tuition plus 50 percent of that amount. In all programs, the cost to WUE students is substantially less than the nonresident tuition. Students do not need to demonstrate financial need to receive the WUE tuition benefit.

NCAA Eligibility

NCAA Eligibility – What You Need to Know
If you plan to play sports at a Division I or II college, you must be certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center before you can compete. This process confirms that you meet academic requirements, have completed the right high school courses, and are an amateur athlete. You’ll need to create an account at the NCAA Eligibility Center, send your official high school transcripts, and submit your SAT or ACT scores if required. It’s also important to keep track of your core course GPA and ensure you’re meeting the NCAA’s sliding scale for grades and test scores. If you’re unsure where to start or want help registering, visit your Counselor and they can walk you through the process and make sure you’re on track to stay eligible.
